Åhus

Hej Hej,
I just got back yesterday from Åhus where I was at language camp. It was a lot of fun. We took lessons every morning from 8:30 to 1:00. It was kind of hard to wake up that early again, but I got used to it. In the afternoons we would do different things with differet Rotarians from Clubs around Åhus. We went mini golfing on the first day, it was kind of basic, nothing like we have at home. There were no big windmills or anything. But it was fun and we got ice cream after. Then we walked along the beach and went into to the ocean, it was really cold but there were huge waves which were fun. Then we went back to the hostel and studied our Swedish. The next day we had more lessons and then went bowling. Bowling was super awesome. It as glow bowling so there were black lights and other colourful lights. It was ten pin which I'm not really used to so I almost lost a couple of balls. I won the first game we played, but not the second. On Friday we went to an Åhus rotary club meeting. There was beer on the table for people to drink. We didn't drink any of course. After the meeting though we went to the Absolut Vodka factory because it is in Åhus. We couldn't take pictures inside, but we saw the bottling process which I really liked. On Saturday we had class and then we went to the beach and played a Swedish came called Cub where you throw sticks at other sticks and try to nock the other team's down. Then that night we played a Swedish version of baseball, which was essentially baseball with a different way of scoring. You scored if you got the other team out. We got candy after the game at our night time Ficka, coffee break. We ate like the entire time we were at camp. We had breakfast with sandwiches and cereal and then we had ficka at 10 with sandwiches and then we would eat lunch at 1 and then supper at 6 and then another ficka, with sandwiches, at 9. Plus we would go for ice cream and candy in between feedings. I don't eat as much at home though so hopefully I won't gain the 15 pounds we are supposed to gain. On Sunday we had lessons again. Our teacher was Eva Lena, she was very cool. Then we made pancakes in the woods after lunch and at night the Rotarians arranged for us to go on a boat ride along the canal that ran through Åhus. It was very nice. On Monday we had a final lesson where we were tested, but it was pretty much just a fun game where we translated poems and songs into Swedish. Then I took the train home all by myself. I had to change trains and everything. I didn't get lost or go to far to Stockholm. I was very proud. Today I went to the bank and activated my bank card all by myself, with the bank man. And I got stamps for post cards all by myself too. It would be more impressive if I hadn't done it in English. Oh well I'm learning. That's pretty much my entire trip to Åhus so I guess I'll post again later.

Sounds like an awesome time Kirsten. That would be cool to go to the absolute vodka factory just to say you've been!
